About the Program

A series of bespoke residencies facilitated in partnership with independent spaces and businesses across the region, to provide space for artists to work and develop their practice and new work.

Applications are open to contemporary artists and collectives from all disciplines.

The MadeSC residencies are designed as a developmental opportunity to provide space and support to artists at all stages in their careers and across disciplines. 

This opportunity includes a stipend of up $4000*, dedicated studio space, access to industry peer support and an informal showing on 11 June 2025.

Artists can nominate their preferred residency month and location for consideration.

Applications from interstate artists are encouraged. However, please note that no additional funding is available for travel and accommodation. Confirmation and letters of support can be provided for artists seeking additional funding.

We are particularly interested in applications for projects from the following:

  • Kabi Kabi (Gubbi Gubbi), Jinibara and First Nations people.
  • Artists / Collectives that are:
    • collaborative and/or experimental
    • inclusive or elevate diverse voices
    • embracing new and unique ways of working.

Applications must demonstrate how the residency will directly benefit the artistic development of the artist / collective and more broadly the arts ecology in the Sunshine Coast Local Government Area.

Applications will be assessed with consideration of the following:

  • Alignment with Sunshine Coast Creative Arts Plan 2023-2038
  • alignment with curatorial focus of residency venue partner
  • artistic merit and project viability
  • benefit to applicant and Sunshine Coast
  • diversity of art forms and communities.

Residency Opportunities: 

  • Falls Farm, Mapleton: 2 to 26 March 2026 – a three-week residential residency set within a working permaculture farm. Suitable for artists with an interest in regenerative practices, environment and science. 
  • LJ Projects, Nambour: 3 weeks in March 2026 – a dedicated month-long residency in a purpose-built dance studio. Suitable for dance, theatre and interdisciplinary performance artists. 
  • LANTANA Space, Moffat Beach: 2 to 29 March 2026 – a month-long studio residency embedded within a regional artist-run initiative. Suitable for artists of any discipline seeking dialogue, experimentation and risk-taking in their practice.

Successful applicants will receive:

The following will be provided with support from the Sunshine Coast Council Creative Arts Team:

  • a stipend of up to $4,000 (ex GST)* 
  • access to industry peer support
  • marketing support through Sunshine Coast Council 
  • supported public showing on June 11

*Stipends of up to $5000 are available for applications involving more than one artist or performer.

As part of this residency opportunity, successful applicants will be allocated a mentor to support the development of their practice or project.

Applicants are able to self identify a mentor or specific area of focus they would like to develop. Sunshine Coast Council will endeavor to connect succesful allplicants with identified mentors or find suitable alternatives.

Successful artists will be required to:

  • provide own materials and equipment required to develop their work
  • hold and supply Public Liability Insurance or other insurances required to deliver proposed activities
  • work in the studio a minimum of three days per week (or equivalent hours)
  • deliver a public outcome in alignment with the host venue during the residency period program
  • work collaboratively with Sunshine Coast Council to promote and document their residency
  • accurately acknowledge Sunshine Coast Council as per provided acknowledgement guidelines.

Project Questions

Applications will be assessed on the below criteria and application alignment with the selected residency venue.

Artistic Merit:

  • Concept rationale - Clearly articulate the creative idea or concept driving your project.
  • Innovation and experimentation - Describe how the project is bold, original or boundary pushing.
  • Quality of work - Demonstrate artists and collaborators involved are experienced, highly skilled and well regarded.
  • Creative process - Describe the methods and artistic practices involved.
  • Contemporary - Explain the relevance and impact of the work to current artistic, cultural or community contexts.
  • Artistic outcomes - Articulate the intended high-quality arts outcomes.
  • Diverse - Contribution to a diverse creative community.

Project Viability:

  • Skills and ability of artists/arts professionals involved
  • Realistic and achievable planning and resources including budget.
  • Role of partners, including confirmation of involvement if available.
  • Consideration of relevant cultural protocols.

Curatorial focus of supporting venues are:

Fall Farm: Regenerative practices or projects with an environmental or science focus.
LJ Projects: Performing artists or projects including; dance, poetry, theatre and interdisciplinary performance artists.
LANTANA Space: Artists of any discipline seeking dialogue, experimentation and risk-taking in their practice.

Development Opportunity

The MadeSC residencies are designed as a developmental opportunity to provide space and support to artists at all stages in their careers and across disciplines. Applications will be assessed on the proposed benefit to the applicants practice and project.
